Kristie Yung is an acoustic-soul, singer/songwriter. Offering a unique ‘Ella Fitzgerald meets Taylor Swift’ sound, Kristie has charmed audiences across Canada and Internationally.  She recently co-produced and performed the Title Song and Soundtrack for television series Mangoes (2011) and is currently writing, producing and recording her debut EP ‘The Set List Project’.
Her influences include Justin Nozuka, Adele, Ebrahim, John Mayer, Kina Grannis and Ella Fitzgerald. Beyond the many songs Kristie has covered on YouTube, she is also a songwriter and producer.
Kristie recently co-wrote and co-produced the title song for Mangoes, the television series (2011), while writing, recording and producing her debut EP, entitled “The Set List Project”.
“Growing up, I just knew that singing was the right path for me. Music has an incredible power to unite people and places. I wanted so much to just be a part of that.”
Kristie first stepped on the stage at the age of 7 as the lead of her elementary school musical. Since then, she has performed on stages across Canada and Internationally.
In 2003, Kristie became a member of world music performance group Jabulani. The group played Samba music from Brazil, North African Drumming, Afro-Cuban percussion and the Zimbabwean Marimbas. In 2004, the group independently released their debut album Take it Easy. In 2005, the group toured to Cuba where they performed and taught African and Brazilian music to Cuban children enrolled in the Cuban arts school. They were featured by various media including CTV’s Good Morning Canada and the Vicky Gabreau Show, The Georgia Straight and CBC Radio.
In 2007, Kristie entered Fairchild Television’s New Talent Singing Awards competition and earned a spot as the 2nd Runner Up winning additional awards such as the Most Glamourous Performance Award and the Most Sentimental Performance Award. From 2007 to 2010, Kristie has performed under Fairchild Television on nationally televised programs such as Miss Chinese Vancouver and TVB Artists Showcase. She also landed a spot as guest performer and award presenter in the 2009 New Talent Singing Awards.
In 2008, a four-piece r&b/pop girl group called Am3ition formed, which Kristie was a member of for two years. The girls performed their debut full-length concert in August of 2010, featuring 16 original English and Mandarin r&b songs. With over 15 years of dance training in hip hop, break and jazz behind her, Kristie trained the group in hip-hop and video dance. In the Winter of 2010, the group split.
In 2010, Kristie broke off on her own to start a solo career. Since then, she has performed at various events, pubs and cafes across the Lower Mainland, most recently sharing the stage with YouTube sensations Passion, Leejay, Victor Kim of Quest Crew, Summer Breeze and Emmalyn Estrada at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre in July.
